What is West Jordan Youth Theatre?

Since 2006, West Jordan Youth Theatre has been bringing high-quality, family-friendly live theatre to our community featuring talented performers ages 8–18. We take pride in performing full productions twice a year with a junior show in the summer for our younger participants, giving our youth the opportunity to experience theatre at its fullest.

At WJYT, kids don’t simply put on a show—they discover their voice, build confidence, and create lasting friendships in a fun, supportive environment.

Through every rehearsal and performance, our young actors gain valuable life skills that reach far beyond the stage: teamwork, responsibility, creativity, and the joy of hard work. Above all, we’re committed to providing a safe, welcoming space where the youth in our community can learn, grow, and perform.

We are deeply grateful to the City of West Jordan, the Cultural Arts Society of West Jordan, and ZAP for their generous support, and to the families who make each season possible.

FAQs

  • What ages can participate?

Most of our productions are open to performers ages 8–18, though specific shows may vary. Age requirements will always be listed in the audition announcement.

  • Do kids need prior experience to audition?

No experience is required! Whether it’s your child’s first time on stage or their tenth production, we provide a supportive environment where everyone can learn new skills.

  • How often do you hold auditions?

Auditions typically occur two to three times per year, depending on our season schedule. Audition dates, requirements, and registration links will be posted on our website and social media.

  • What should my child prepare for auditions?

Audition requirements vary by show, but we ask performers to prepare a short song in the style of the show. This means 16-32 bars or about 1 minute. We provide a speaker that can connect via bluetooth or adapter to most devices.

  • Is there a participation fee?

Yes, WJYT productions include a participation fee of $75 to help cover costumes, sets, props, and performance costs. Financial assistance may be available for families in need.

  • How long is the rehearsal process?

Rehearsals generally run about 10 weeks, depending on the production. Cast members usually rehearse 3 days per week (monday & Wednesday 6-9pm and Saturday 12-4pm), with additional rehearsals during tech week leading up to performances.

  • Where do rehearsals and performances take place?

Rehearsals are held at our rehearsal space in West Jordan, while performances take place at West Jordan’s CVCAC. Exact locations are listed with each production.

  • How can parents get involved?

We love and rely on parent volunteers! Opportunities include helping with costumes, sets, backstage support, concessions, and more. No experience needed—just enthusiasm.

  • Who runs West Jordan Youth Theatre?

Our theatre is managed entirely by a dedicated board of volunteer community members. We do it because we love seeing kids thrive through the arts.

  • Do all kids get a role?

We strive to cast as many performers as possible, but cast size depends on the needs of each show. Even if your child doesn’t receive their preferred role, every part is important and contributes to the magic of the production.

  • How can I stay updated on upcoming auditions and shows?

Follow us on social media, subscribe to our newsletter, and check our website regularly for announcements, registration dates, and show information.

  • How can local businesses or individuals support WJYT?

We welcome donations, sponsorships, and in-kind support. Community partnerships help keep our program strong and accessible. Contact us to learn how you can get involved.

Becca

😬

Becca Henrie has been volunteering at WJYT for a full decade, which basically means she’s seen enough theatre chaos to earn several honorary degrees in Patience and Adaptability. She’s the president (and allegedly “the funny one”), a snuggler of dogs and kittens, a champion napper, and a proud user of reading glasses she pretends not to lose daily. When she’s not conquering the insurance world or binge-watching something important, she can be found dreaming of playing The Witch in Into the Woods or deciding whether invisibility would help her avoid conversations or spy on Keanu Reeves. Probably both.

If chaos had a CEO and hot glue had a hype woman, it would be Brook Mann. Powered entirely by cheese, V8, and the Naughty & Nice from Swig, she makes theatre magic while juggling five amazing kids, a cute bespectacled husband, and every hobby known to humankind. With her bug-loving bravery, social-media sparkle, and possibly a surgically attached phone, Brook keeps WJYT running smoothly and joyfully.

Tracey

👍

Tracey Lyu is the purple-loving, Dr-Pepper–with–peach–and–coconut–sipping treasurer who keeps WJYT running smoothly. A longtime fan of The Office and Big Bang Theory, she brings warmth, humor, and serious organizational power to the team. When she’s not crunching numbers, she’s probably gaming, cross stitching, or enjoying adventures with her family of six. Whether she’s budgeting behind the scenes, producing like a pro, or cheering on the cast, she helps make each show shine.

Kim Hansen writes about herself in third person because it feels appropriately dramatic for someone who once wanted to marry Prince William. She may or may not be the secretary, but she is definitely the Spreadsheet Whisperer. Fueled by British chocolate, Kim loves her patient husband, 3 incredible kids, and long walks with her mini-horse (fine, her dog). Whether she’s acting, backstage helping, or quoting Gilmore Girls, Kim brings charm, charisma, and chapstick to every WJYT production.

Jess

🔥

Jessica Lynch—aka The Muscle—brings heart, humor, and just a little sass to every WJYT production. She’s a longtime volunteer turned board member who loves her kids, her menagerie of pets, and the color purple. Fueled by loaded salads and coconut water, she quotes New Girl, crushes on John Cena, and belts karaoke like an absolute legend. Whether she’s cooking delicious food, hosting game night, or lifting all the heavy stuff, Jess is the friend and teammate who holds us all together.

Mandy Kongaika brings creativity, adventure, and sunshine to WJYT. Whether she’s sewing, cheering on her Drama Mama crew, planning trips to Hawai‘i or the Bighorn Mountains, or sipping a giant Diet soda, Mandy is always in her element. She loves The Office, Korean BBQ, Cubworld, and dreaming up new ways to make every show brighter. With scissors in hand and a heart full of aloha, she keeps the team energized and inspired.

Sarah

🤓

Sarah Bringhurst somehow juggles 2 crazy kids, creative choreography, and her own chaotic Disney addiction with suspicious grace. She keeps a book and candy on her at all times—because you never know when you’ll need something sweet or an emergency escape into another universe. Powered by Cafe Rio, P!nk anthems, and Gryffindor-level bravery, Sarah is one well-timed jazz square away from changing the world...or at least starting an impromptu dance party.

Alex Osborne brings his passion for set building to WJYT, using his sweet muscles and swoon-worthy smile to create magic on stage and off. He loves New York City, 90s alternative rock, a good round of golf, and tacos—always tacos. When he’s not designing sets, he’s probably watching Top Gun, reciting movie quotes, or daydreaming about stepping into Jack Kelly’s shoes. With chapstick always on hand and creative ideas always flowing, Alex helps bring every production to life.

Alex

Alex Moffitt is a powerhouse mom, a Labor & Delivery nurse, and WJYT’s newest and tallest member. Fueled by Mexican food, Disney magic, and her unshakable loyalty to the Backstreet Boys, she runs races for fun (yes, fun), keeps a book and water bottle on her at all times, and celebrates holidays with enough enthusiasm to intimidate professional theme-park designers. And somewhere in all of that…Alex still sings—but only when she thinks no one’s listening.
