Event Description
What happens to art when the world order shifts? Voices of Empires explores the music of three composers living under the weight of imperial power. From Haydn’s "Emperor" (composed for the Holy Roman Empire) to Shostakovich’s haunting 8th Quartet (born of the Soviet era) and Britten’s wartime debut, this program captures the tension between creative genius and the state.
